Toby Burton is the clinic's detox co-ordinator. He has 15 years experience of assessing patients, organising their treatment, and looking after them post-detox.
Toby will meet you, and your relatives or carers if you wish, at the Stapleford Centre for an assessment, during which he will go through your history with you to get a better understanding of your addiction and personal circumstances. He will also talk with you about how you plan to adjust to an opiate-free lifestyle. This usually takes about a couple of hours and includes a physical examination by one of the doctors to make sure you are in a condition to undergo a rapid detox.
Once you have seen him, Toby is available to contact by mobile telephone during the day and out-of-clinic hours, which can be very helpful when you need advice before and after your detox. He is very caring, and patient (he has to be - he also works with children and musicians!) and for this reason is popular with the patients. He has helped hundreds of addicts over the years through the physically, mentally and emotionally challenging task of getting and staying clean.
Detox techniques by our linked services in Lithuania or Portugal vary a little, so at assessment we will advise you on the most suitable detox for your needs. Staff in both clinics are very experienced and friendly. Treatment can usually be organised in a week or two, and once at home again, patients are prescribed a number of medications* to help them through the post-detox residual withdrawal symptoms*. If required, further naltrexone implants can be inserted at The Stapleford Centre in London.
* Medications are used to treat any nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, agitation, restlessness, insomnia, aches and pains.

What is Rapid Detox?
Rapid Detox usually involves a 5-7 day stay in a clinic or hospital. There, you will stop taking opiates and be kept as comfortable as possible by medically treating your withdrawal symptoms. The withdrawal process may be completed by using Naltrexone (an opiate antagonist or ‘blocking’ drug) with sedation. The insertion of a Naltrexone implant is usually part of the process and is recommended.
What's included in the cost of your treatment?
An assessment covering your medical, psychiatric and drug history, a physical examination, tests and a treatment plan.
Flights to the clinic (from a London airport) and back to London, as well as the insertion of a 12-week acting Naltrexone implant (if requested).
